CATALOGUE MAGIS-HOME

Printed material

Wishing you a Happy New Year, we are glad to inform you that 2015 will start with many news from Magis side. The main one the launch of the new Magis-Home catalogue, which offers a preview of the graphic transition underway as our corporate identity is revamped.
This is an important element in our new coordinated image, in line with all our communication tools (news, price lists, website, newsletters, press campaigns…): a necessary path in order to build a strong and distinctive brand identity.

The catalogue comprises an emotional section and a rational section, separated by an insert in a different size and format, dedicated to the history of the company.

In the emotional section, the products are not photographed individually, but are illustrated in different locations, combined in various ways.
The homes chosen represent a range of different styles, architectural types and personalities, highlighting the way that Magis products fit in beautifully in so many different situations.

The insert found between the two sections focuses on the company, and gives a timeline summing up the milestones reached by Magis over the years, described by Giampiero Bosoni, an illustrious figure in the design world.
We also find a number of pages dedicated to different designers who work with Magis, and a sequence of photographs featuring a selection of the firm’s most prestigious contract pieces.

In the emotional section, the products are not arranged in any particular logical order, while in the rational section products are subdivided by type.
Each product is accompanied by a written description in five languages, dimensioned technical drawings and still life photos of all versions and finishes.

The MDF top appears to float above the frame, accentuating the sense of lightness and movement. Available in three sizes, suitable for any space and purpose: 200 x 90 cm, 160 x 90 cm and an extending version, measuring 160/220 x 90 cm;

Traffic (design Konstantin Grcic): after the success of the first Traffic elements the collection enriches now also of three small tables with wire frame and tops in acrylic stone;

Piña (design Jaime Hayón): the rich and unique wire structure of the armchair with a pineapple pattern is now presented as a low chair and a rocking chair, to create a collection for both indoor and outdoor use, allowing many alternative daily uses.

Spun: a revolution in seating.
Not just a new seat, a new concept in seating and sitting.
Its harmonious, dynamic and perfectly symmetric shape is reminiscent of a cotton reel, a top that spins on its axis or a vase thrown on a potter’s wheel.
A captivating contemporary sculpture when it is still, Spun becomes a comfortable, fun seat when it moves, a seat on which we can experience new sensations, rediscover the pleasure of rocking, turn 360°, and play with the world around us.
Born of Thomas Heatherwick’s creative flair and Magis’ research, this unconventional seat has already won one of the design world’s supreme accolades, the 2014 ADI Compasso d’Oro award, which every three years is given to the best Italian design products in quality and value.
Besides the Compasso d’Oro for Spun, Magis received also two nominations for the chair Venice (design Konstantin Grcic) and for the stool S.S.S.S. (design Philippe Starck with the technical collaboration of Luigi Barei).
The awarding ceremony took place on May, 28th at Spazio A ex-Ansaldo in Milan, the city of origin of the Compasso d’Oro, where the prize was back this year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its foundation.
Starting from April, 2nd an exhibition presenting all the products selected for ADI Design Index in the last three years was on show at this location.
The winning items will then be included -as usual- in the Historical Collection of Compasso d’Oro.

Piñata is the name given to the display designed by Spanish designer and artist Jaime Hayón at the Magis showroom for the next Salone del Mobile.
A display characterised by joy, colour and fun, focusing on the Piña collection, which is enlarged this year – after the chair launched in 2011- by many new elements, such as the low chair, the rocking chair, the foot-stool and the low table.
In Spanish, a Piñata is a decorated container filled with small toys or candy and then broken apart during a ceremony or celebration. The scenography presenting the Piña collection is therefore an explosion of magic and colour to welcome the new variety of uses that has been conceived with the chair’s unmistakable structure.
On Monday 7 April from 6 to 8pm the press review will take place (for members of the press only).
On 8 April from 7 to 10pm, Magis will be hosting a cocktail party in the presence of Jaime Hayón and many other designers of the Magis team (by invitation only).

This collection is made up of six different elements: an armchair, a two-seater sofa, two benches, a chaise longue and a platform with a steel rod frame (painted in metallised colours) and cushions covered in fabric or leather and available in a wide range of variations.
It is the correlation between the three-dimensional outline of the steel rod and the geometric volumes of the cushions which marks in fact a significant shift from the common connotation of wire furniture.
As Grcic himself stated: “”… its unassuming simplicity makes for pleasant casualness, while its refined detailing and carefully tailored proportions reflect elegance””.

Panorama is the title of the exhibition dedicated by the Vitra Design Museum to Konstantin Grcic and his works, which will be opened on March, 21st (until September, 14th 2014).
Magis is protagonist and sponsor of this solo exhibition on Grcic, who has become a star of the international design thanks to a series of products, which are already recognized as design classics, such as the Chair_One designed for Magis in 2002.
This exhibition focuses on three large-scale installations developped by the designer especially for this show and presenting his personal visions for life in the future: a home interior, a design studio and an urban landscape. A fourth area of the exhibition provides insights into Grcic’s working methods with a selection of objects, prototypes, drawings and works by other designers who inspired him in his career.
This makes Panorama an exhibition between present and future, reality and fiction: a great design narration with an extraordinary visual power.
All the products designed by Konstantin Grcic during his years-long collaboration with Magis find a wide collocation in this exhibition: from Family_One to 360° Family, from Venice to the collection The Wild Bunch, up to the most recent products, that is the Traffic collection and the chair Tuffy, which will be launched at the next Salone del Mobile.
