From November, 14th to 21th Magis was protagonist of Design Supermarket, a space devoted to design on the basement floor of the La Rinascente, Piazza Duomo in Milan.
Magis showed here some of its newest items, such as Clouds and Birds (design Benedetta Mori Ubaldini), My Zoo (design Martí Guixé), Magis Proust (design Alessandro Mendini) next to one of its most famous icons, being Puppy designed by Eero Aarnio.

Magis Store, Nantes

After the showrooms in Cologne, Milan and Tokyo, Magis opened also – with the partnership of our customer Groupe Meiji – its first Magis Store in Nantes on November, 19th. This is a shop wholly devoted to Magis, where the visitors will be able to admire a big product selection from the Magis and Me Too collections and among these the new products designed by Philippe Starck and Marcel Wanders.
A cocktail party took place for the showroom opening at the prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel in Nantes based in the beautiful setting of the ancient Town Court House.

On the occasion of the fair Made Expo, which took place last October in Milan, Magis products were protagonists of two special installations, that is the pavilions devoted to the contest Instant House promoted by FederlegnoArredo in collaboration with the Milan Politecnico, and the experimental houses designed by Cibicworkshop, the research centre founded by the famous architect Aldo Cibic, for the exhibition “”Green House Design, architectures in eco-friendly materials””.

Magis at Design Tour, France

Magis participates for the first time this year in the Design Tour in France, a travelling urban exhibition on design.
Four stages (Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Montpellier) of three days each (from Thursday to Saturday for four weeks) to discover and re-discover the designers and the important places for design.
Magis will attend Design Tour with the exhibition “”Radical et Technologique”” devoted to the collaboration with Philippe Starck. All Zartan versions and S.S.S.S., two innovative products both in technology and material, will be the protagonists of this exhibition, which will stop at:
– Ameublement Saint Vincent in Lyon (49, quai Saint Vincent) from November 14th to 17th
– Voltex in Marseille (167, rue Paradis) from November 21st to 24th
– Voltex in Bordeaux (49, cours Georges Clémenceau) from November 28th to December, 1st
– RBC Design Center in Montpellier (609, avenue Raymond Dirand) from December 5th to 8th

On November 1st from 4pm a presentation on Magis was held by Alberto Perazza, Magis Managing Director, in front of a selected group of architects at Magis showroom in Tokyo, opened last September.
This presentation was followed by a conversation between Alberto Perazza and Naoto Fukasawa on the ten years long collaboration of the Japanese designer with our company.
Moreover, from October 24th to 26th Magis attended also the fair Living & Design in Osaka with a stand designed by Toshiyuki Kita.

Magis and La Pâtisserie des Rêves, Paris

Events

Magis opened, in collaboration with the famous Pâtisserie des Rêves in Paris, founded in September, 2009 by Thierry Teyssier and the renowned French confectioner and chef Philippe Conticini, the first tea room only for children (111, rue de Longchamp).
In this place, which was entirely furnished with the products of the Me Too Collection, a workshop for children aged from 4 to 8 will take place every Wednesday, starting from October, 31st, where these budding confectioners will undertake the creation of tasty sweets.

Magis was recently awarded with the prestigious German Design Award in the Home Interior category for the chair Flux (design Jerszy Seymour) and the stools Tom and Jerry – The Wild Bunch (design Konstantin Grcic) and with a special mention for the chair Piña (design Jaime Hayon).
The awarding ceremony and the opening of an exhibition on the winning products will take place on February 15th 2013 during the fair Ambiente in Frankfurt.
Moreover, the low chair Raviolo (design Ron Arad) was selected by the ADI Permanent Observatory for Design to be included in the ADI Design Index 2012, which represents the first step to the XXIIIth edition of the Compasso d’Oro Award 2014.

The great success of the armchair Magis Proust (design Alessandro Mendini) goes on: this armchair was recently included in the permanent collections of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg and of the Museum für angewandte Kunst in Vienna.
Moreover, it was also selected for the set up of the play “”Il matrimonio segreto”” by Domenico Cimarosa and directed by Morgan, which took place at Coccia Theatre in Novara on October 5th and 7th.
As last but not least, the estate “”Il Borro”” of the Ferragamo family included some Magis Proust in their displaying for Wine Town 2012, which took place on September, 21st and 22nd in Florence in the prestigious Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni.

Magis participated through XTRA Designs at the 100% Design in Singapore, which took place from October, 10th to 12th.
On October, 11th Alberto Perazza, Magis Managing Director, held a lecture there on Magis and the meaning of design for Magis, which is the research of a high quality design in conjunction with the technological innovation.

On the occasion of its 25th anniversary The Conran Shop organized the special exhibition RED, which took place during the just ended London Design Festival.
The exhibition showed a special red edition of the works of over 40 internationally renowned designers and emerging design talents.
On this special occasion the following Magis products were displayed:
the table Baguette and the chair Pila (design Ronan & Erwan Boruoullec), which were realised in the red colour used for the Steelwood Family (also designed by the Bouroullec duo)

On the occasion of the next Paris Design Week (September, 10th to 16th 2012) Magis will set up a special exhibition named “”Radical and Technological”” at the prestigious showroom Silvera in Paris, (at Les Docks, Cité de la Mode et du Design) devoted to the collaboration between Philippe Starck and Magis and to the launch of the first two products developped by the French designer for Magis, that is the chair Zartan and the stool S.S.S.S.
The set up focuses on the radical and technological features of these two objects, highlighting the technological innovation of the various production steps and the use of eco-friendly materials. On September, 13th a special event will take place with a press preview, a round table and interviews to Starck and Eugenio Perazza and also a special presentation for Magis sales network. This day will end with the vernissage starting from 7pm in the presence of Philippe Starck.

Flash Hábitat, Valencia and 100% Design, London

Wonder Puppy event, Manila

On August, 17th the event Wonder Puppy took place at the showroom of our dealer Dimensione in Manila in the presence of many architects, journalists and local VIPs. Eight architects and designers were asked by Dimensione to customize Puppy (design Eero Aarnio), which has become a cult product of Magis Me Too Collection. The resulting works will be on display until mid-September at Dimensione showroom.

Magis is the only design company Thomas Heatherwick works with, while for Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby Magis was one of the first companies the British duo collaborated with (in Magis catalogue Poppins and Four Leaves by Barber&Osgerby and Piggyback and Spun by Heatherwick). Both Barber&Osgerby and Thomas Heatherwick were protagonists of the recent London Olympic Games, which they designed respectively the Oympic torch and cauldron for, obtaining great appreciations worldwide.

Magis participated in the event Italian Festival (6-17.06.2012) with the exhibition “”Beyond the Imagination”” organised by our local dealer Luxury at Living in the Event Hall of the Crystal Design Center of Bangkok.

The event “”Midsummer Special”” devoted to architects, designers and interior designers took place on June, 21st at Design Post in Cologne. This event was organised by Stylepark under the collaboration of some companies having their own showroom in the Design Post premises (among them Magis).

A special event devoted to Alessandro Mendini and to Magis Proust took place on June, 20th from 6pm at Magis showroom in Milan (a special shop window set up with Magis Proust will last a couple of months starting from that day).
This event has been conceived as an informal conversation on design between Alessandro Mendini, architect, designer and artist, one of the most versatile figures in the Italian cultural background, and Eugenio Perazza, Magis president and founder.
Vanni Pasca, design professor at various Italian universities and president of the Association of Design Historics, chaired the debate.

Heatherwick Studio: Designing the Extraordinary

On May, 29th the exhibition “”Designing the Extraordinary”” (until September, 30th 2012), was opened at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. This exhibition is the first major retrospective on the work of Thomas Heatherwick, one of the most important British architects nowadays, who was described by the magazine Style, distributed as enclosure of the Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera (in an interview to him appeared in the June issue) as “”the leader of the junior archistars, one of the most famous shape creators of present time, whose London studio combines architecture, industrial design, handicraft and art””.
Spun, the spinning chair designed by Thomas Heatherwick for Magis is one of the protagonists of this exhibition.
Spun displays Heatherwick’s flair for challenging rules, producing a startling twist on conventional furniture design: a functional chair formed from a single profile rotated through 360 degrees, which plays with the notion of a static piece of sculpture becoming a playful piece of design.

Salone del Mobile

As usual, Magis attended Salone del Mobile with an extremely light and easy stand (Hall 20 C01/D02 – project by Elisa and Stefano Giovannoni), entirely in wood and with open sides, to make all its corners clearly visible and to show up the products. The product displaying was made up of ten platforms devoted as usual to the different designers and, among them, one was wholly taken up by the Me Too Collection.

On the occasion of the Salone del Mobile, Magis opened its Milan showroom in Corso Garibaldi 77, that is in the living and dynamic Zona Brera, where art, fashion and design constantly join up. A 260 square meter space over two floors (Magis showroom project is also by Elisa and Stefano Giovannoni), where Magis displays its bestsellers next to its most recent products. Magis showroom is conceived as a unique big shop window, where the different typologies of Magis catalogue will be shown in rotation. A lively and active place with a dynamic space on the basement to interact directly with architects and designers. The press preview took place on April, 16th from 6 to 8 pm, while the opening was held on April, 18th starting from 7pm (cocktail party by invitation).

From March, 19th to 22nd Magis took part for the first time in the International Furniture Exhibition Design Dome in Shenzhen (China), where it displayed its new items and the bestsellers of its collections. On that same period a forum on design was held at the fair premises with many designers and managers as speakers, among them also Alberto Perazza, Magis Managing Director.
Moreover, Magis opened on March, 16th at MOTstyle showroom in Taiwan the exhibition “”Made in Magis. The materials and technologies behind the products””, which presents the case history of three Magis products, that is Chair_One, Paso Doble and Steelwood Chair, whose manufacturing meant a great effort for the company to define the project technologically.
Since its beginnings Magis has always been a technologically driven company, which focuses on technologies and materials, always experimenting new possibilities and solutions, putting itself to the test, seeking technological sophistication. This exhibition, which will last for a month, was organised for the launch of the partnership between Magis and MOT and was opened in the presence of Alberto Perazza with the handover of the Golden Puppy to MOT Brand & Merchandising Manager, Millais Kao.

On the occasion of the Internationale Möbel Messe of Cologne of last January, Magis opened its own showroom at Design Post and, moreover, it participated to various events, which took place in Cologne on that same period:
– to Chairity with the chairs Cyborg in polycarbonate (design Marcel Wanders), a charity auction organised by Design Post and its own exhibitors for the association “”Friends of MAKK””, the Museum of Applied Arts of Cologne;
– to Design Lounge at MAKK. Thanks to the cooperation between Design Post and its exhibitors, the entrance hall of the museum has been changed (and will remain such until the end of October) into a reader’s lounge, where Magis is protagonist with the stools Tom & Jerry (design Konstantin Grcic) and the chairs Cyborg (design Marcel Wanders);
– to the exhibition “”das Haus – Interiors on Stage”” with Vigna Chair, which took place in the halls of the Internationale Möbel Messe, following the basic idea of exhibitions on the Ideal House.

2012 will start for Magis with three important events:

– on January, 16th, on the occasion of the Internationale Möbel Messe, Magis will open its permanent showroom at Design Post in Cologne (Deutz-Mülheimer Strasse 22a), where the Magis classics, such as Bombo Stool (design Stefano Giovannoni), on the market for 15 years, Air-Chair (design Jasper Morrison), Chair_One (design Konstantin Grcic), Steelwood Chair (design Ronan&Erwan Bouroullec), Déjà-vu Stool (design Naoto Fukasawa), will be on display next to the most recent new items in our collections.
The creation of this permanent showroom aims to reinforce the German market, which is welcoming Magis products positively in these last years;

– Magis will participate also this year in Salon Now!Design à vivre in Paris (January, 20th-24th; Hall 8, stand D15-E16).
The French market gives, in fact, a great satisfaction to Magis, as we are obtaining constant growing results there.
Magis arrives therefore at its appointment with the Paris fair in really good form with a stand playing on lights and neutral colours – especially white – to highlight the product colours.
The stand is dominated by a horseshoe shaped central podium, whose lightness shows up trough a play of lights, making it appear hanging.
As on the walkway of a fashion show, Magis products are all placed on this podium and illuminated by a light beam coming from a light platform above it.
To complete this background a wall made up of the modular shelving system designed by Zaha Hadid;

– in February Magis will also participate as usual for many years now, in the Stockholm Furniture Fair (February, 7th-11th ; Hall A – 16:30);

– a lot of the new items launched at the last Salone del Mobile of Milano – and now available in stock – will be on display at Design Post in Cologne, at Salon Now! in Paris and also at the Furniture Fair in Stockholm, such as the modular shelving system Tide (design Zaha Hadid), the stools Tom&Jerry and the chair Venice (design Konstantin Grcic), the armchair Cyborg (design Marcel Wanders), the low chairs Magis Proust (design Alessandro Mendini) and Raviolo (design Ron Arad).

In April, on the occasion of the next Salone del Mobile, Magis will also open a showroom in Milan (Corso Garibadi, 77) , projected by Elisa and Stefano Giovannoni.
