XXIII COMPASSO D’ORO ADI

Spun: a revolution in seating.
Not just a new seat, a new concept in seating and sitting.
Its harmonious, dynamic and perfectly symmetric shape is reminiscent of a cotton reel, a top that spins on its axis or a vase thrown on a potter’s wheel.
A captivating contemporary sculpture when it is still, Spun becomes a comfortable, fun seat when it moves, a seat on which we can experience new sensations, rediscover the pleasure of rocking, turn 360°, and play with the world around us.
Born of Thomas Heatherwick’s creative flair and Magis’ research, this unconventional seat has already won one of the design world’s supreme accolades, the 2014 ADI Compasso d’Oro award, which every three years is given to the best Italian design products in quality and value.
Besides the Compasso d’Oro for Spun, Magis received also two nominations for the chair Venice (design Konstantin Grcic) and for the stool S.S.S.S. (design Philippe Starck with the technical collaboration of Luigi Barei).
The awarding ceremony took place on May, 28th at Spazio A ex-Ansaldo in Milan, the city of origin of the Compasso d’Oro, where the prize was back this year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its foundation.
Starting from April, 2nd an exhibition presenting all the products selected for ADI Design Index in the last three years was on show at this location.
The winning items will then be included -as usual- in the Historical Collection of Compasso d’Oro.
