Magis Event in Shanghai

On last December, 19th a Magis event took place in Shanghai at The Design Republic, our local dealer. The designer Konstantin Grcic and his Family_One were the guest stars of this event, which opened with a press conference by Alberto Perazza, who introduced the company, its history, its philosophy and its most significant products, and with a brief presentation by Konstantin Grcic. On that same day Konstantin Grcic also held a lecture on design at the Architecture Faculty of the Hong Kong University in Shanghai in front of a large audience of designers and architects. As end of this event there was a party at The Design Republic showroom with about 300 guests among VIPs, journalists and opinion makers.

Magis Ball

Magis Ball, a sales promotion tool designed by the famous Japanese architecture studio Torafu, is the result of the partnership between Magis Japan, the Japanese branch of Magis, and SFIDA, the football brand by Imio Corporation. It is not a football in the strict sense of the world, but a promotional tool produced in a limited edition, aiming to promote Magis in Japan, where its brand is already having a good, growing and growing success.

DesignPreis Deutschland 2009

Chair First (design Stefano Giovannoni) has been recently awarded with Designpreis Deutschland 2009, the highest German design award. The award ceremony and the opening of the exhibition devoted to the winning products will take place on February, 13th 2009 in Frankfurt, as part of the next year’s Ambiente International Frankfurt Fair.

Ron Arad: No Discipline

From November, 20th 2008 to March, 16th 2009, the Centre Pompidou of Paris is devoting to Ron Arad the exhibition “No Discipline”.
Ron Arad’s work goes beyond any easy classification and expresses a free creative spirit working without constrictions or frontiers in design, architecture and plastic arts.
The retrospective of his work proposed by the Centre Pompidou presents prototypes, limited series and mass-produced objects, along with numerous architectural projects, characterised by the typical sinusoidal, elliptical and oval forms of the so-called Ron Arad style.
Magis, collaborating with Ron Arad since many years, is also present at the exhibition with the rocking chair Voido (in some of its versions) and also with some prototypes of the rocking chair itself, showing the various phases in the development of this project.
Near Voido also two prototypes of Swan are on display, another low-chair/sculpture by Ron Arad, to whose project Magis is working since various years now.

Anniversary of The First World War End

The town of Vittorio Veneto organized beginning from last May a series of initiatives to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War. The top and conclusive event of these initiatives took place on November, 4th in the presence of the Italian Republic President Giorgio Napolitano. In the fascinating location of Teatro Da Ponte the President Napolitano held a commemorative speech in the presence of a large group of students from Vittorio Veneto on the stage. On that same evening and in the same theatre a concert in the President’s honour took place in the presence of many authorities and VIPs. On the stage of the Teatro da Ponte the Air-Chairs by Magis, which always pays a great attention to local cultural initiatives, sponsoring various events of this kind.

Pulchra is the first competition devoted only to objects.
A commission consisting of Italo Lupi, Alessandro Mendini, Sandro Silvi and Matteo Vercelloni has selected Magis’ broom Magò and 99 other products for the contest, which is being held online at www.pulchra.org.
To vote (from January, 31st to December, 31st, 2008) participants simply choose the 10 items they like the most out of the 100 selected for the contest.
At the end of the year, the ten items receiving most of the votes will be proclaimed the winners and placed in a waterproof metal capsule for burial in a park, where a beautiful, custom-designed garden will be created on the surface above. Year after year, with subsequent editions of Pulchra, a mosaic of gardens will mark the existence of this invisible museum of beauty, while the participant coming closest to the final results will be awarded with a prize of 10.000 euro.

Biennal Brasileira de Design

From October, 8th to November, 5th 2008 Chair_One, Bombo Stool, Dish Doctor and Rock were on display in the exhibition on Made in Italy (concept by the Italian architect Vanni Pasca) which took place at the National Museum of Brasilia during the Biennal Brasileria de Design.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Étapes

Villa Noailles in Hyères, in the South of France, housed the first stage of the exhibition Étapes, a travelling exhibition on the talent and works by the Bouroullec brothers, featuring a selection of their designs from recent years along with older pieces, focusing on the technical development and on the inspiration sources of these products. The exhibition has recently moved to Switzerland at ELAC, l’Espace Lausannois d’Art Contemporain of Lausanne, and in spring 2009 it will move to Grand Hornu in Belgium.

Magis event in Morocco

Three different moments for Magis happening in Morocco, which took place on October, 10th and 11th 2008:
The first one was the conference “The World of Magis” held by Eugenio Perazza, Magis founder, and Stefano Giovannoni at ArtCom (the most important design and architecture school in Casablanca): an excursus on Magis history, focusing particularly on the case history of the Family First, designed by Stefano Giovannoni himself.
After the conference, the awarding ceremony of the “Me Too, Moi Aussi” competition at the Beaux Arts of Casablanca. This competition, promoted by Magis and addressed to young professionals and students from the last year of the architecture and industrial design faculties, aimed to the development of a project for the Me Too Collection by Magis.
The following day in Tangier at Casa d’Italia (the Italian Embassy in Morocco) the opening of the exhibition also entitled “The World of Magis” (which lasted till November, 10th ) displaying the most significant products of Magis and Me Too collections.

I Saloni Worldwide Moscow

Magis participated also this year to the fair I Saloni Worldwide of Moscow, exhibiting its newest items, among them the new colours of the Chair First, the glossy aluminium versions of Chair_One and Stool_One and a brand new golden version of the rocking chair Voido by Ron Arad. On those same days, Magis products also furnished the Cosmit Press Lounge at the Crocus Exhibition Center and were also part of the exhibition on Made in Italy (promoted by the Ministry and the Institute of Foreign Commerce) at the famous department stores GUM of Moscow.

Index Mumbai 2008

For two years in succession, Magis participated to the Fair Index of Mumbai, showing its most significant and recent products. On the same days of the fair, Magis also took part with some of its products (and precisely with Air-Chair, Chair_One and Seggiolina Pop of the Me Too Collection) to the exhibition The Italian Way of Seating, promoted by the Italian Institute for Foreign Commerce and from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The Italian Way of Seating is a travelling exhibition which was on display in Hong Hong before reaching Mumbai.

Sanakids

On the occasion of the 20th edition of the fair SANA of Boulogne, the products of the Me Too Collection by Magis were on display in the exhibition Sana Kids, the exhibition-event devoted to the relationship between good and sustainable products and childhood. The concept of Sana Kids, conceived by SalamancaDesign Studio of Boulogne, presented a setting with near-zero impact, using only 100% recyclable materials: the products of the Me Too Collection by Magis, and the Puppies in particular, were presented, in fact, on carpets made of non-toxic materials and created with shapes ad hoc for this event, this to underline the idea that essentiality in products and shapes can create an ideal and comfortable environment for children.

Design Mix

Magis was one of the protagonists of the exhibition Design Mix edited by Giulio Cappellini, an event proposed for the 2008 edition of the fair Abitare il Tempo of Verona. The Design Mix exhibition has been envisaged by Giulio Cappellini as a magic path in a fairytale wood where, surrounded by trees, hills and lakes, the visitor walks through a selection of objects that go from items for everyday use to iconic pieces, from projects by young designers to products by worldwide known names, all mixed together with an ironic touch. On display from Magis collections: Air-Chair, Striped Chaise Longue, Bottle e Magis Dog House.

Magis for Daniela Gregis

Daniela Gregis, the stylist-artist from Bergamo who combines tradition with the experimentation of new shapes and models in her creations, chose – as in the last 3 years- to use Magis’ products for the presentation of her new collection spring/summer 2009. The Air-Chairs by Magis were protagonists with the new models by Daniela Gregis of the fashion show which took place on September, 22nd in the exclusive and fascinating location of the Oratorio della Passione in Milan.

Workshop Singapore

From September, 7th to 12th, 2008 a workshop was held at Magis headquarter, organised by Magis with the Singapore Furniture Industries Council.
11 young designers and professionals from Singapore attended this workshop and worked on the development of a project for the Me Too Collection by Magis, the collection of furniture and objects for children from 2 to 6 years old.
It was an interesting and profitable week, an important occasion for both the participants and the people of Magis Design Department, headed by Eugenio Perazza (Magis founder and CEO), to exchange ideas and opinions on various themes related to design.

Magis and Comodamente 2008

After the successful first edition of ComodaMente, a second edition of the cultural Festival of Vittorio Veneto took place also this year, with the same aim of its beginning, i.e. to give people hints to reflect on various themes connected to everyday life. Magis collaborated also this year to the success of this event, lending its products to furnish the “living rooms” located in three different areas of the town, where the conversations, dialogues, concerts, previews and the other events of the Festival took place. All these events focused on the theme of conflict dominating at various and different levels the relation network of the contemporary world.

Also this year Magis was one of the technical sponsors of Circuito Off Venice International Short Film Festival (this year to its 9th edition), which has been taking place since some years in the beautiful setting of San Servolo Island (Venice) in the same days as the Cinema Festival of Venice.
A prestigious and fascinating location, where the products of Magis and Me Too collections found a perfect arrangement, contributing to enrich both the indoor and outdoor spaces of the Festival.

Magis at Café Intramuros

Magis participated also this year to the exhibition Café Intramuros by Chantal Hamaide, which took place on the occasion of the September edition of the fair Now!Design à vivre of Paris. This time Café Intramuros “moved to outdoor” to show the works both for indoor and outdoor by six worldwide renowned designers, among them the Bouroullec brothers, who have been collaborating with Magis since several years now. On display for Magis at Café Intramuros the Steelwood Chairs belonging to the Steelwood Family by Ronan and Erwan Bourollec, which is having a good success on the international market.

XXI Compasso d’Oro ADI

Children’s chair Trioli (design Eero Aarnio) of the Me Too Collection by Magis was recently awarded with the 21st Compasso d’Oro ADI, while Chair First (Design Stefano Giovannoni) and Striped Collection (design Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec) received a nomination to the Compasso d’Oro award. The award ceremony took place on June, 27th in the beautiful scenery of the Reggia Venaria in Turin, where on that same day an exhibition of the winning products was also opened.

Magis at Pitti Immagine Bimbo

On the occasion of its last edition (June 27th-29th 2008), Pitti Bimbo launched BabyWorld, a completely new area dedicated to design and infant care and culture.
The event of this first edition of BabyWorld was Minidesign, an exhibition curated by Cristina Morozzi and inspired by the Me Too Collection by Magis.
A special selection of furniture and objects by internationally renowned designers, to live and play with, placed in an amusement setting. All dedicated to a child-sized world with a 100% design label.
Among these objects was Trioli (design Eero Aarnio), which has been recently awarded with the Compasso d’Oro ADI award..

Magis a principal player in New York

The MoMA Store, the Museum of Modern Art’s exceptional renowned shop, gives to Magis shop windows in both 53rd St and also the Soho shop. Large Steelwood Chair pictures – the new chair designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec now on sale – is featured in both of the stores shop windows. A huge banner with the Steelwood artwork, welcomes the visitor at the fair (ICFF) entrance, and Steelwood again fills the ICFF Theatre space. The Magis stand is characterized by stunning graphics. For the first time some of the newest products exhibited in Milan are being shown to the American market. Magis won the important 2008 ICFF Editors Award prize for seating collections.
