Venice was designed with softer, more fluid lines.
The meticulously shaped seat-cum-armrest casting creates a notion of distinguished elegance and comfort.
Venice is a stacking chair suitable both for indoor and outdoor use and will be available in many different colours.

The Centre Pompidou in Metz hosts the exhibition Bivouac from October, 7th 2011 to July, 30th 2012, the greatest retrospective of the works by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.
Imagined as a temporary encampment – hence the name “”Bivouac”” – the exhibition is deliberately divested of scenographic elements, to let the works of the French designers stand out as the only protagonists. The visitors are invited to wander around the gallery, moving between prototypes and finished objects, mass-produced and handcrafted works displayed in a dynamic route characterised by contrasting scales, transparencies and superpositions. All the products developped by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Magis are protagonists of this exhibition, from their first project for Magis, the document holder La Valise, to the collections Striped Family and Steelwood Family, up to their most recent works, that is the table Central, the table and the chair Baguette and the low table set Tambour.

Events

On July, 21st the exhibition “”Wunderkammer Design”” on Alessandro Mendini and his works was opened at the Neues Museum für Kunst und Design in Nuremberg (organized by Peter Weiss under collaboration of Die Neue Sammlung museum in Munich).

Mendini transformed the wide exhibition room of the museum in a Wonder Hall of design. The exhibition architecture Mendini himself designed allowed him – who considered his works as an incessant research, a trip and an odyssey – to make a synthesis and to show a whole host of examples from his 40 years long artistic career. More than 80 objects on display and among these also Magis Proust, the version in rotational-moulded polyethylene of the famous armchair designed in 1978, which Magis launched at the last Salone del Mobile of Milan. Old and new works, on which the artistic idea by Mendini is based. Objects rich in opulent colours, exoticism and shapes, through which Mendini creates a design of the Wonder Hall, recalling the past and at the same time astonishing and surprising us in the present.

XXII COMPASSO D’ORO ADI

Magis was awarded also this year with the prestigious Compasso D’Oro, which every three years is given to the best Italian design products in quality and value.
Magis received the Compasso d’Oro for Steelwood Chair, whose project was developed by the stars of French design Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Steelwood is an elegant chair with a classic shape displaying a single combination of two traditional materials: wood and steel plate. At the same time Steelwood is also a high-tech chair since the steel plate back is the result of nine stages of manufacturing , folding and bending of the plate itself.
Magis received also a nomination for the table Piggyback, designed by the young and brilliant English designer Thomas Heatherwick. Piggyback is a special extending table or better two rectangular tables of the same dimensions that look like a single table, when placed one on the other, while when separated, they are two tables that can be drawn near as one likes to obtain different configurations which are not possible with standard extending tables.
The award ceremony took place on July, 12th at the Pelanda Heaquarter of MACRO (Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome), where until 25th September 2011 the awarded products will be displayed at the exhibition “”Unicità d’Italia”” , that displays 50 years of Made in Italy through the products awarded with Compasso D’Oro during its 22 editions. These items will then be included in the Historical Collection of Compasso d’Oro.

Magis Proust – Now available

Products

The armchair Magis Proust designed by Alessandro Mendini and launched at the last Salone del Mobile of Milan, is now available in stock. The Magis Proust is a version in rotational-moulded polyethylene of the famous armchair designed in 1978, which Alessandro Mendini himself describes as follows:
“”I think that many people should already know my work called “”Poltrona di Proust””.
It is a romantic baroque armchair, on which an endless number of polychromatic points are painted by hand using the pointillism technique.
These points invade the whole armchair, its fabric and also the wooden decorations.
It’ s a re-design work.
It is, in fact, the collage of a mock-ancient armchair and of a detail from the garden by the French painter Signac.
From 1978 onwards the “”Poltrona di Proust”” was realized in many versions, different in colours, materials and dimensions and was even made of ceramics and bronze. It travelled all around the world and was hosted in many museums.
Now a real unexpected news.
A paradox becoming true.
Now the “”Poltrona di Proust”” has become an industrial rotational-moulded object.
Here’s the new armchair “”Magis Proust””.
It is a technical and production gem.
A new energy of colours and atmospheres for a timeless object..””
